Quick Tips on Organizing Bookmarks and Getting The Most Out of Your Internet Surfing

I am in the process of organizing my bookmarks, RSS feeds and other stuff in my desktop and hard drive. Being an avid Internet "surfer", meaning I read almost like 30+ blogs and news everyday, I have collected A LOT of bookmarks. So this post is just to share a quick (non-technical, as much as possible) overview of how to organize bookmarked/favorite websites, keep up with what’s new in them and get the best out of your Internet surfing.

1.) BOOKMARKING: Bookmarks or Favorites are links to websites or web pages that you like. You can bookmark a web site or web page by clicking the Bookmark menu in the toolbar, then Add Bookmark (for Mac users, but this is similar to PC users as well).

2.) REAL SIMPLE SYNDICATION OR RSS: RSS Feeds are snippets of current updates or news from websites that you subscribe to. They are usually organized by using a program called RSS Feeder.

What use are these for you?

Let’s say you like cooking. You went to Google to search for new recipes. There you found a website that has the recipe you had in mind, plus other more that you think might be useful in the future. What you can do then is to bookmark this website so that the next time you need a recipe, all you have to do is just click it from your Bookmark list (without having to memorize the site name, or go through Google search again). Now, if you really like this specific cooking website, you can subscribe to their RSS Feeds. Subscribing will put this website into your RSS Feeder and enable you to know if they have posted new recipes. Pretty neat, isn’t?

Here’s my very own bookmark list as an example.

Organization is the key to maximize your Internet surfing time. It’s ideal to have your favorite websites arranged into folders and named according to their category for easier searching in the future.

And here’s my RSS Feeder – the program I go to that lets me know if there are new posts from my favorite websites.

Keep in mind that the Internet is a great place to seek information from as long as you know how to find it, organize it and pick out the real and good from the fake and plagiarized.

Happy Surfing! ^__^

sitting for hours in front of computer mesmerized by coolness

Ever since I started Melted Like Butter, it was inevitable that I will be hooked on surfing the internet. I'm not talking about "surfing the net" as what it is usually connoted - myspacing, looking at people's profiles, facebooking, mafia wars, yoville-ing... the works. I am talking about REAL to the sense surfing the net. I could spend many hours going through online magazines, weblogs, webzines and trend sites, and not be tired one bit. It's all too very inspiring. I had no idea how self-indulgent I was before for just blogging about my life rants when there is a whole world out there waiting for me to discover and share. Like today for example, I was planning on making an entry about my first day at a new hospital (a REAL hospital, and not a nursing home anymore), but then I came across this really cool artist who journals so artistically, it makes my diary seem so plain blah. And then I came across a couple of weblogs dedicated entirely for packaging design, which by the way are getting totally cool makeovers. And then I came across a number of image bookmarking sites (more on that later). And with all the new stuff I see everyday, I can't even think of what to blog about first!

All I know is that when I do this, my mind is somewhere else fun and exciting. Forgetting about the stressful reality.

Sigh, if only if things were always this easy.

Melted Like Butter: A subway story of a bag-full of ponies, all in a Diorama

http://meltedlikebutter.blogspot.com/2009/03/subway-story-of-bag-full-of-ponies-all.html
I think it's time to make clear again the distinction of my two blogs. With my last vaccine rant I think I have clearly established that my multiply site is where I vent and pour out all the dark and twisty stories of my life. Which is all the reason why I created Melted Like Butter. So that I have somewhere fun to go to and just forget about my cuuuuhrazy antics.

So about my new post... *big wide smile*. I can't help it. The two featured artists are so damn good and talented, they made me make diorama-making as a new self project. hahaha But seriously, check out my new post in Butter as well as the artists' respective sites. I think y'all agree how cute those little ponies when you find 'em. ^___^

Melted Like Butter - new blog

http://www.meltedlikebutter.blogspot.com
This is just to test the waters. I've said that I want to revamp my site, but I suddenly had this idea of an anti-egocentrism blog that will just be all about news of cool finds.

The idea behind this decision was the irritating feeling you get when you see something cool and you want so badly to tell someone about it, but can't find anyone who'll listen, because it's just about a drawing you thought was quirky. That's exactly what I want for Melted Like Butter - to be that person to tell to when people find cool stuff. ^_^

I'm crossing my fingers that this will go well, and I'll be able to keep up with the submissions and postings, and that I might have the courage to post the link in Facebook and Myspace as well.

Show some love and bookmark Melted Like Butter!!! Thank you!
